I know I mentioned it was getting pretty hot here in the city in my last blog post. Now that summer appears to be in full swing lets talk about everybody’s favorite collarbone revealing trend: the cold shoulder. This trend is a subtle and understated way to show of some skin- keeping it classy and sexy all at once.
This style is nothing new, but fashion is cyclical, so I’m happy to see a trend that re-emerged last summer is back for round two! Last year we saw a lot of peasant cold shoulder tops that were much more “festival” and casual in nature. This year, the trend returns with a little more of a grown up, dressier feel.
I love the top I’m wearing here from Zara. (Similar here) I’ve paired it with my favorite cropped flare jeans and my must have lace up heel (Links in this previous blog post) for this season. Top it off with a vintage clutch and a statement necklace and I’m ready to rock everything from date night to boozy brunch.
The colder shoulder can be dressed up for evening as well. I would pair this top with culottes or a cropped skinny pant and heels for dressier events that are a bit fancier. I also love the idea of tucking this top into a high waisted skirt for a more dramatic feel. Just make sure whatever you put on the bottom doesn’t compete with the silhouette of what’s on top. I wouldn’t put two oversized items together unless you can somehow define your waist- either with a tuck or a belt.
wait can i reply to this? YES TO THIS and i just want to say that i was all about the cold shoulder last summer and am so perfectly pleased by its return. can i have a culottes post soon with links tailored to me but you don’t have to say me but like I’LL KNOW
